- NEW: Stakeholder meetings regarding the Waterkeeper Monitoring Petition will begin June 16, 2008. The petition seeks to require permitted animal operations to monitor for potential water quality impacts. Click here for more information.
- NEW: Notice of rulemaking for NCAC 15A 2C .0100 Well Construction Standards: Criteria and Standards Applicable to Water Supply and Certain Other Wells. Click here for the draft rules and schedule of public hearings for July 17-29, 2008. Written comments must be submitted between June 16, 2008, and August 15, 2008. - Senate bill 1465 (Swine Farm Environmental Performance Standards) was signed into law on August 31, 2007, thereby creating General Statute 143-215.10I. The Environmental Management Commission is in the process of drafting rules to implement this new statute. CLICK HERE for information or contact KEITH LARICK at 919-715-6697 to submit comments.
- The final budget approved on July 31, 2007 includes an increase to most fees associated with Division of Water Quality permit activities. This increase represents the first change in fees since 1999 and reflects inflationary costs associated with program delivery. Beginning September 1, 2007, all permit fees collected must meet the legal requirements of these fee changes.
- The Divisions of Water Quality and Waste Management have combined resources to manage contaminated soil and groundwater. This decision has resulted in some changes in program responsibilities, which are detailed in this memorandum.
